What is the Solstice?
- The Solstice is the day with the shortest day and the longest night and marks the middle of winter. It is the last day before the days start to lengthen towards summertime. It is caused by the tilt of the earth away from the same.
- Many cultures around the world perform solstice ceremonies driven by an ancient fear that the failing light would never return unless humans intervened with celebration and ceremony.
